       uranus

William Hershel House in Bath where the planet was discovered.

Uranus was the first planet to be discovered by telescope. In 1781, William Hershel was looking through his home made telescope in his garden at Bath, England, when he noticed a green coloured star. He knew green stars don't exist so he knew it was something unusual. After a few days of observing, he realised it was orbiting the sun and was a new planet. It was almost called Planet George, after the King.
